Mike Black Hotel Frankenstein 2007 cast

Mike Black is a seasoned actor and director who has been sharing his time and talents with the community for many years.

Mike Black is a man whose name has become synonymous with Hotel Frankenstein. This has been one of the most popular shows at the Valley Center Playhouse for over 30 years and Mike Black has been directing it for the past seven years. He always does a wonderful job taking on the very difficult task of both director and actor. Mike has played Vlad, also known as Count Dracula, in Hotel Frankenstein even longer than he has been directing and has given excellent performances each time. One of our patrons shared this comment, "Thank you for a wonderful show last night. Our entire family enjoyed it very much! My 17 year old daughter is now in love with a vampire!"

Mike Black first became involved in theater on a stake level when he directed The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. "I was always very shy and never thought that I'd ever do any theater because you have to get up in front of people and actually have to say something. I wanted to not be shy so I forced myself to face my fears by weaseling my way into a stake music performance. I sang a solo, about fell down when I walked out on stage because I was so nervous. But I made it through that and started doing live theater shortly after."

Mike Black started his acting career through the help his neighbor who was also an actor and High School theater teacher. He introduced Mike to his agent and has since been able to participate in commercials, movies, and mini-series and been able to work with some very well known people. He has also performed in live theater all over Utah County. He was in Rumors, Annie Get Your Gun, Titanic, the musical, Breathless, Take a Number, Darling as well as his work at the Valley Center Playhouse.

Best Director Award

"My favorite part about theater is developing a character. It is fun to be someone other than myself sometimes."

Mike is an excellent actor and has been awarded at the Valley Center Playhouse for Best Director twice as well as Best Character Actor. Don't miss his performance this year in Hotel Frankenstein as Mr. Woodnocker. Mike Black has been a wonderful asset to the Valley Center Playhouse. He always works hard, gets the job done, and helps both the actors and audience to have a great time being a part of it. Thank You!
