The LeRoy Wilcox Service Award
For the first time ever the LeRoy Wilcox Award
was presented twice and to members of the Renstrom Family.
This is a special award presented to individuals who have given more support and time
to the Valley Center Playhouse than any other during the last year.
Tyler Renstrom, grandson to Jody and Keith Renstrom,
began in theater very young by taking the drama classes provided at the VCP.
He then began playing Junior Woodnocker in Hotel Frankenstein for a few seasons.
In his teens he became Keith and Jody's "emergency guy" whom they knew they could
call on to fill in for an actor at the last minute or any other emergency.
In 2007, Tyler played five major rolls, one of which was Buddy Boy in Possum City, USA.
For this role he was called on emergency once again and given only 24 hours total
to learn the part before he went on to perform!
He directed two of the shows, understudied for several parts, helped with lighting and sound
and on all the sets. With only ten shows a year, this is one man who definitely
went above and beyond sharing his time and talent with the community at the Valley Center Playhouse.
You can read more about Tyler Renstrom on his spotlight page!
Mike and Jerusha Renstrom, son and daughter-in-law to Jody and Keith Renstrom,
were also awarded the LeRoy Wilcox award for 2007.
Mike literally grew up in theater as his parents started their first playhouse when he was just a baby.
From the time he was three years old they could see he was a born actor who loved to act out all of the characters at home that he would see in the plays. He has acted in over 50 plays at the Valley Center Playhouse and has been in over 100 across the community. He has won many awards in this field and went to UVSC on an acting scholarship. He has taught theater professionally, directed many plays, worked in lighting and sound, costuming, choreography and is also a playwright.
Jerusha got involved in theater a little later in life as a teenager in her high school, although her mother had her on stage a few times as a child with family musical acts. As she loves to sing and dance, she would join the high school musicals and show choirs, but upon receiving a non-singing roll in Bye, Bye Birdie she realized how much she loves to act. After coming to Utah for college, she pursued this desire to act by joining with the Valley Center Playhouse. She has been involved with the VCP ever since.
In 2007 Mike and Jerusha helped choreograph the dances in Time After Time, helped get The Littlest Warrior written and ready for production which Mike also helped direct, Jerusha took over the VCP website and worked in promotion and she also acts as "personal secretary" to Jody Renstrom (this is Mike's title for her).
